So, as far as I can gather, if you copy text into the clipboard, any subsequent app you open can access the text you copied while it's still in the clipboard. If yours has this feature it's often configured in that password manager's settings. It's a common feature of password managers to automatically clear the clipboard a certain amount of time (eg 1 minute) after copying a password from them. I guess every time I copy something from my PW manager, I have to go and delete it from the clipboard? As in, I believe this is the case but maybe others can confirm. It's also likely that they can't access it in the background and must be open to access it. They can only access what's currently in the clipboard, not the clipboard history, though I guess they may keep their own history. So at the moment the only option is to manually go in and delete? This seems like a pretty big oversight.
